Northern Thailand, home of the ancient Lanna Kingdom offers a great diversity of activities.  The old Lanna capitals of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are filled with ancient monuments and museums and market selling the distinctive local textiles and handicrafts.  Away from the main settlements, the scenery of Northern Thailand is stupendous: mountains, forests, rice fields set in verdant valleys, several spectacular national parks, in addition are home to many ethnic peoples.

Most travelers’ head for Chiang Mai, the northern capital and Chiang Rai as a base of visiting.  However, the small town has many sites of archaeological and cultural interest such as the Ancient City of Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand some 700 years ago, Phra Phutthachinarat at Phra Si Mahathat Temple, Phitsanulok said to be the most beautiful Buddha images in Thailand and also recently are attracted all the visitors for the performance of flying vegetables and insects market, Lampang, the sole Thai town which still using colorful horse drawn carriages and it claims to have the World’s only training school for baby elephants,  Mae Hong Son, city of three mists giving this serene upland area its unique and magical appearance. 

Oub Kham Museum is located near Den Ha market, one kilometer from the town center. The collection includes objects from the areas once belonging to or affiliated with the Lanna kingdoms encompassing northern Thailand and some parts of northeast Myanmar, southwest China and Vietnam. Apart from objects used in rituals the collection mainly consists of objects used at the royal courts including lacquer ware, silver jewelry and clothing. Most notable is a golden bowl, a masterpiece, used by royals. This is the must site you couldn't miss including Rai Mae Fah Luang, The Art and Cultural Park to experience the real Chiang Rai!!!

Rai Mae Fah Luang, The Art and Cultural Park  is a cultural center and center of Lanna Studies dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Lanna heritage.There are 5 exhibit areas namely

  a. The Botanical Gardens and Nature Park
  b. The Haw Khumm(Golden Pavilion)
  c. The Haw Khum Noi (Small Golden Pavilion)
  d. Sala Kaew-A ceremonial space for rituals 
  e. Haw Kaew-Gallery of Lanna Cultural Arts.

Rong Khun Temple, A lifetime project of artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the temple has a fine blend of traditional Buddhist art with contemporary themes. The temple is almost entirely white – no other colors are used at all. It is though decorated with small pieces of mirrored glass which add substantially to the temple’s spacious and airy feel. Designed to be viewed in moonlight, if you can manage to get there when the moon is out it’s worth the effort, very nice indeed.

Elephant Camp, a close up encounter with the lifestyle of elephant handlers or mahouts.  See how they care for the animals, put them to work and train them to perform.

Phra That Doi Suthep Temple, This temple is Chiang Mai’s most important and visible landmark, and overlooks the city from its forested mountain backdrop.  It is 3,520 feet above sea level, and dates from 1383.  The temple is approached on foot by climbing a steep staircase comprising 290 steps. The less energetic may ascend by funicular railcars.  The temple’s golden pagoda contains holy Buddha’s relic, and attracts Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world throughout the year.


 
 Tour Schedule

Day 1: Bangkok - Chiang Rai
At 06.00 am, our tour guide in purple and navy blue uniform will meet and greet at the hotel lobby. Depart hotel for smooth flight to Chiang Rai by TG 130 (07.30 - 08.50) in Business Class. The first visit at Private Museum Oub Kham, Ancient Lanna Kingdom’s Heritage, then visit
Rai Mae Fah Luang, The Art and Cultural Park . Both sites are the must see in Chiang Rai and couldn’t miss!

Then, visit Phra Tamnak Doi Tung, a beautiful royal residence is built for the Princess Mother, the main attraction is Suan Mae Fa Luang, a very beautiful garden decorated with different kinds of plants and flowers.

Visit Chiang Saen, was an ancient town located on the bank of Mae Khong River and The Golden Triangle, where the Mae Khong meets the Ruak River this where the borders of three countries, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand followed by the visit of the charm of its old temple at Wat Pa Sak. An opportunity to visit Don Sound (Laos Border Line) by Junior James Bond Boat.  Visit the Mae Sai Borders on Myanmar's Tha Khi Lek Market, by the Mae Sai River with a bridge spanning both sides.

Day 2: Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai
After Breakfast, transfer to Chiang Mai, on the way visit
Black Museum where Thai artist Thawan Duchanee houses both himself and all his artistic endeavors in one, then visit an amazing Rong Khun Temple, the unique temple by the creative power of the famous Thai Paintings, Mr. Chalermchai  Kositpipat.

At night, visit the famous Night Bazaar and transfer to hotel.

Day 3: Chiang Mai - Bangkok
After breakfast, depart hotel to visit Chiang Dow Elephant Camp, 65 km from Chiang Mai or 1 hours drives to see how the well trained elephants work in the forest.  Enjoy elephant riding into the dense jungle (1 hour round trip).  After the Elephant Riding, take a Bamboo Rafting along Mae Ping River for one hour.  Then, visit Phra That Doi Suthep Temple, This temple is Chiang Mai s most important and visible landmark, and overlooks the city from its forested mountain backdrop. Visit Handicraft Villages, where you can see how the local people making Silk, Wood craving, Silverware, Umbrella making etc. Transfer to airport for smooth flight to Bangkok by TG 117 (19.15 - 20.25) in Business Class. Arrive Bangkok and transfer to hotel.
